Le nom scientifique Lophoceros semifasciatus a été décrit par Hartlaub en 1855.

Notes taxonomiques (IUCN) : Lophoceros fasciatus and L. semifasciatus (del Hoyo and Collar 2014) were previously placed in the genus Tockus and lumped as T. fasciatus following Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993).

Sous-espèces : espèce monotypique (forme unique).
