Sokoke Scops Owl female, adult, breeding
A roosting pair of the rufous morph.
This is Africa's smallest & one of its rarest owls being restricted to the Cynometra woodland of Kenya's Arabuko-Sokoke forest & Tanzania's Eastern Usambara mountain forest remnants. These owls nest in cavities in mature Brachylaena trees which are one of the first trees to be targeted by illegal logging.
