Bennett's Woodpecker male, adult — Scarce to common species. It is often seen feeding on the ground in mature woodlands and savannahs. It feeds on ants and termites, other insects and larvae. It is resident in its range, and performs short-distance movements after breeding season.

Espèce éparse à commune. On le voit souvent se nourrir sur le sol dans les grandes forêts anciennes et les savanes. Il se nourrit de fourmis et termites, et d'autres insectes et larves. Il est résident dans son habitat, et effectue quelques mouvements locaux après la période de reproduction.
